The Harris County Development Authority has been awarded a $54,400 Rural Site Development Initiative (RSDI) Grant through the OneGeorgia Authority, as announced by Governor Brian Kemp during the fourth round of Rural Site Development Initiative awards. Located just minutes from Interstate 85 and approximately one hour southwest of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Parcel G is the largest contiguous tract remaining within the Northwest Harris Business Park in West Point. The site is among the largest publicly owned sites available for industrial development in west Georgia along the I-85 corridor. "Receiving this grant is an important step in Harris County's long-term economic development strategy," said Craig Greenhaw, Chairman of the Harris County Development Authority. "This investment is about more than preparing a site, it's about creating new opportunities for quality jobs, expanding our industrial base, and strengthening our competitiveness throughout Georgia and the Southeast. We are grateful to Governor Brian Kemp, the OneGeorgia Authority, the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, the Georgia Department of Economic Development, our state legislative delegation, and our utility partners for their continued commitment to helping rural communities compete for transformational economic development opportunities." The project will complete the due diligence necessary to prepare the site for Georgia Ready for Accelerated Development (GRAD) certification, enhancing Harris County's ability to compete for future industrial investment and quality job creation. The Rural Site Development Initiative requires that grant-funded sites be reserved for job-creating industrial development and stipulates the site will not be developed as a data center, solar farm, or mini-storage facility. The award builds upon nearly two decades of strategic investment in the Northwest Harris Business Park, which began following the announcement of Kia Georgia in 2006. Parcel G represents the next phase of Harris County's long-term vision to create a portfolio of development-ready sites capable of attracting high-quality industrial projects. Georgia Power provided a $25,000 economic development contribution to the development authority for starting diligence on the site in 2025. "Our goal has always been to ensure Harris County is ready when opportunity knocks," said Greg Panzer, Harris County Economic Development Director. "Site selectors expect communities to have sites that are well-documented, thoroughly evaluated, and development ready. This grant allows us to complete the due diligence necessary to pursue GRAD certification, reduce development risk, and give prospective projects greater confidence in our community. Combined with our strategic location along the I-85 corridor, regional workforce, and exceptional quality of life, this investment significantly strengthens the Northwest Harris Business Park's position as one of the premier industrial development opportunities in west Georgia." The Harris County Development Authority expects to begin site diligence later this year, with the goal of pursuing GRAD certification upon completion. Achieving GRAD certification will demonstrate that Parcel G has undergone the rigorous technical evaluation required by today's industrial site selectors, providing prospective employers with greater confidence while reducing development risk. The Georgia Economic Developers Association (GEDA), one of the leading organizations for economic development professionals in the Southeastern United States, is proud to announce that Craig Greenhaw, chairman of the Development Authority of Harris County, has been named the 2025 GEDA Volunteer of the Year. This annual honor recognizes exceptional volunteer service to an economic development organization or community. Nominations are solicited from all GEDA members, and one statewide recipient is selected by the GEDA Board of Directors annually. The award was presented at the 2025 GEDA Awards Gala on Monday, Nov. 17, at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, where community leaders, business owners, and public officials gathered to celebrate outstanding economic development achievements across Georgia. Greenhaw expressed his appreciation upon receiving the award, “I am honored to receive this award, but this is truly a team award for Harris County and the relationships we’ve built between the Development Authority, the Board of Commissioners, the City of West Point, and all our partners. It has been my pleasure to serve, and to continue to serve, to diversify the tax base and bring positive change to the place I love to live, work, and play.” During more than a decade of volunteer service, Greenhaw has played a pivotal role in advancing key economic development initiatives in Harris County. He was instrumental in the progress of the Northwest Harris Business Park in West Point, helping recruit two major projects including Daesol America, the largest new project in county history with a $72 million capital investment and more than 140 jobs. In addition to his volunteer leadership, Greenhaw supports regional economic growth as a real estate broker and developer. He has been a member of the Greater Columbus Home Builders Association since 1999, served as president in 2008, and was named Builder of the Year in 2008 and 2023. Governor Brian P. Kemp today announced that Daesol Ausys Georgia will establish a new manufacturing facility in West Point. The facility will create more than 140 new jobs and $72 million in investment in Harris County. “West Point has become an automotive capital in its own right, and we are excited that Daesol Ausys will join other innovators in Harris County,” said Governor Brian Kemp. “Our state’s automotive industry employs over 50,000 hardworking Georgians and will continue to grow as e-mobility suppliers choose all corners of the state for the jobs of the future.” Daesol Ausys was established in Korea in 2017. The company specializes in designing and manufacturing motor and electric vehicle interior components and accessories. It is a key supplier for Kia Georgia, Hyundai Motor Group, and General Motors. “We’re committed to delivering world-class services that exceed our clients’ requirements and expectations,” said Min Ho Kwon, CEO of Daesol Ausys. “We are very excited about this project in the Northwest Harris Business Park and look forward to continuing the partnership with the State of Georgia and Harris County.” Daesol Ausys’ new facility will produce luggage boards and luggage covers. Operations are expected to begin in December 2024.
